THE LOFT ROOM en suite
The loft room is really, really special. I designed and converted the loft and the space includes windows on three sides (so much light, but don’t worry blackout blinds provide a very good night’s sleep!), a balcony, a fabulous king size bed (which I designed and upholstered) and a bathroom that has got to be Brighton’s best! It was the first ceramic installation I did in The Ceramic House.
Since then, I have installed permanent ceramic installations in nearly every room in the house and all over the garden. It is a Gaudiesque world!
The garden is really gorgeous. It is a double height patio with two terraces completely enclosed with mature climbers and flowers including the best rose bower in Brighton! It is a very private, lovely space full of artwork. Most of the garden has been covered with my tiles and there are four different levels all with lovely ceramic tables and chairs. It is quite magical, especially when the sun shines.
Every May the house turns into a living gallery and I invite renowned ceramic artists to exhibit their work here. The house is open to the public at weekends only, and it is a fun, buzzy time to be here. Every May Brighton hosts the second biggest arts festival in the UK (after Edinburgh). There is so much to see and do, art, music, theatre, dance, comedy, etc. And that's not just during the festival, it's all year round!
I love collecting antiques and vintage, so the whole house is furnished with retro/deco/antiques along with many pieces I have collected on my travels. I also collect art and I have a good collection of original prints and paintings and a lot of ceramics around the house.
The house has everything you need including wireless internet of course. Breakfast is not included but there are several good cafes for breakfast within 5 minutes walk. Tea/coffee making facilities available in the room. Laundry facilities available for stays of a week or more. Kitchen facilities available for you to do your own cooking for stays of a week or more.
There is plenty of free parking here on my wide spacious street just round the corner from Fiveways, where there is a shop to suit every requirement. As well as all the shops, there are several lovely cafes/delicatessens and there are some great pubs too not far away.
The number 50 and 50A buses stop on my street and take 10 minutes to get into the centre of Brighton. A lot more buses stop at Fiveways. Walking into the city centre takes 20 minutes or it’s just a 5 minute cycle ride.
NATURE/THE SOUTH DOWNS
At the end of my road is Hollingbury Woods and the Golf Course, which is where the South Downs begins...only 5 minutes to the best views in Brighton and nature at its best! The South Downs is Britain’s youngest national park and the South Downs Way is a long distance walk and one of Britain’s national trails, running for 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne. It is very popular with walkers, and can be travelled on bicycle or horseback.
Brighton has many attractions, including the absolutely over-the-top exuberance of The Royal Pavilion, the famous Brighton Pier, and I can tell you where the best beaches are. Brighton is great for cycling around, or just walking, taking in the Lanes and the wonderful traditional pubs.
PROXIMITY TO AIRPORT /LONDON/ UNIVERSITIES
Gatwick airport is 30 minutes on the train from Brighton and Newhaven has ferries to France. Brighton is a great place to explore the south coast and London. Brighton has two universities. There is a bus from my street straight to Falmer campus and also to Brighton university sites in town.
Règles de la maisonNo pets or smoking in the house.
Smoking in the garden is fine however.
Noise must be kept to a minimum after 11pm.

What a fabulous house and host. Kay made us feel very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed all the artwork in the house. We stayed in the loft room, very spacious and yet cosy, especially on a stormy night. Handy to central Brighton with a bus stop just steps away, and street parking was free and easy to find! Will definitely be back!
Kay and Joe are kind people. Special atmospheric stay with all the tiles and art in the house. Nice room. We also had a look in the Gallery Room which is beautiful and well lit. There is no breakfast, but Kay gave us a great advice to visit the Flour Pot Bakery which is in 5-min walking distance and has the most lovely bread and cookies we have ever tasted. 20-min walking distance to city center and about 40-min to Brighton pier. Great Brewdog pub in the citycenter (52-54 Grand Parade).
Warm and welcoming room, double bed, with a small kitchenette area with microwave and kettle and a little bathroom. Perfect for a short stay because it provides what you need.
Small and artistic garden outside the room that makes your stay way nicer.
Very good location, because though it is not on the city centre, it just takes 20 mins to reach it from the house.
In short, a pretty and well cared place perfect for one person (max for a couple because it has double bed) staying for a short time in Brighton!
